Financial Intelligence not playing ball with Makwakwa investigation - Sars

South African Revenue Services (Sars) has appointed Firdous Sallie as the chief officer for business and individual tax, to replace suspended Jonas Makwakwa, Commissioner Tom Moyane announced today.

Tau Mashigo was also appointed as Sars acting chief officer of digital information services and technology.

Sars spokesperson Sandile Memela says there has been a lack of cooperation from the Financial Intelligence Centre regarding its report on suspicious transactions into Makwakwa's account.

Memela said he is in no position to answer questions about why Makwakwa was only suspended yesterday, despite having the information since May.

He also refused to comment on whether there was a prima facie case from HR policies, that triggered the Commissioners decision yesterday.
