Zuma expected to address workers despite objections by Cosatu affiliates

General-Secretary of Cosatu, Bheki Ntshalintshali says President Jacob Zuma is expected to address the workers at their May Day rally in Bloemfontein on Monday.

This follows objections by some of the union affiliates who said they refuse to be addressed by President Zuma at the rally.

At a recent Cosatu special central executive committee (CEC) meeting, a decision was made that Zuma should step down as President, hence the unions are saying he is not the right person to be addressing the workers.

Ntshalintshali says it was all Cosatu members who took a decision to invite the ANC and other alliance members to deploy their leaders to Cosatu rallies.

He says it is the alliance's decision to deploy the leaders who are available to attend these rallies, as they usually do.

The point is that it cant be the NOB's (National Office Bearers) of Cosatu that change the decision. The best thing we could've done was to call for a special CEC.

Bheki Ntshalintshali, General secretary

At best the unions could've asked for special CEC to make it clear that we don't just invite the ANC to send its leaders but indicate who they should send.

This doesn't mean we don't care or take serious what other unions are saying...
