This article has been updated.

A local school principal, Stanley Mnyakama, took it upon himself to help find the family of a 16-year-old boy who died last week in Coligny in the North West province.

The alleged murder of the boy was apparently the reason there were violent protests in the area last week.

Residents claim a farmer assaulted the boy after finding him in his maize field, allegedly throwing him off a moving bakkie.

According to Mnyakama, the boy has been identified as Jonas Mahlomola Mosweu. The boy was also known as "Faki" to his peers.
