Affidavit reveals how Zuma allegedly tried to cover up his relationship Thales

The Sunday Times on Sunday reported that a lawyer who worked for French company Thales has now lodged an affidavit in the High Court in Pretoria explaining the role he played during the arms deal back in the mid to late 2000's. The papers say, in an affidavit filed by Ajay Sooklal he explains how President Zuma asked him not to testify in the arms deal commission, chaired by Judge Seriti.

Sam Sole is an investigative journalist at the amaBhungane Centre For Investigative Journalism and also conducted extensive investigations into the arms deal at the time. Sole says the report in the Sunday Times supports the allegations of various agencies that began probing the arms deals and Thales and their part of the deal.

Thales drew on its links and access to politically exposed persons and President Zuma was their number one guy.

Sole says Thales invested heavily in protecting themselves through Schabir Shaik who was President Zuma's financial adviser at the time.

Ajay Sooklal was at the centre of the failed defence project, to defend the company against allegations that it did bribe South African's and bribe their way into the deal. He was in the belly of the beast.

Sole explains that Sooklal fell out with Thales because they didn't pay him what he thought he was meant to be paid for conducting the defence of their company. Sole says the case brought forward by Right2Know and Corruption Watch is a review of the findings of the arms deal commission.
