The Western Cape worker is celebrated on Workers Day

Alan Winde, MEC for Economic Opportunities in the Western Cape says Project Khulisa was launched in 2014. This resulted 127 000 jobs created in the Western Cape's agriculture and agri processing sectors, bringing the total number of residents who are employed in these sectors to 448 000.

Reflecting on the Western Cape's employment opportunities Winde says he is pretty happy with the results so far.

Overall when i think of what's happening in South Africa, I think the Western Cape numbers are looking really good.

Winde says apart from a focus on Project Khulisa sectors, they are also ensuring that young people are able to take advantage of economic opportunities. He adds since they took office in 2009, almost 8 000 young people have participated in their skills programmes. In the 2017/18 financial year, they were investing R63 million into skills development and they have set themselves a target of training 32 500 young people by 2019.
