Pressure now on Malusi Gigaba to implement Fica Bill

2 May 2017 7:24 AM
The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac) says the implementation of the Bill should be speedy.

The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac) has welcomed the signing of the Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment (Fica) Bill into law by President Jacob Zuma.

Casac executive secretary, Lawson Naidoo, says it's now the time to make sure that mechanisms to ensure implementation are put in place as soon as possible.

Naidoo says Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has the responsibility to implement the Act.

Zuma had sent the Bill back to the National Assembly raising concerns about the constitutionality of provisions relating to warrantless searches.

Parliament adopted minor changes to address the President's concerns.
