The Gauteng Education Department has officially launched its online portal to enable parents to register their children for their first year of school in 2018.
Spokesperson Oupa Bodibe says while the department is experiencing problems with its telephone line, it’s been an otherwise seamless process.
Within the first twenty minutes, 16 000 parents had already applied successfully, we are now sitting at 80 000.— Oupa Bodibe, spokesperson
We improved the capacity, we were expecting huge traffic and increased it to be able to deal with 150 000 applications per minute.— Oupa Bodibe, spokesperson
Bodibe says parents who live closest to their desired school will be given first preference.
Parents will receive confirmation that the application has been received and then they must take their documents within the next seven days to the school.— Oupa Bodibe, spokesperson
We will close the applications on the 12th of June at midnight.— Oupa Bodibe, spokesperson
He says schools will begin placing learners from 24 July 2017.
