Van Breda's defence pokes holes in cop's testimony

Henri van Breda's legal team has disputed claims that it would've been very difficult for an intruder to scale the property's wall and gate.

Defence lawyer Pieter Botha cross-examined Sergeant Adrian Kleynhans on Tuesday, reports EWN's Giovanna Gerbi.

Kleynhans was the first officer on the scene at De Zalze Estate in January 2015, following the attack on the van Breda family.

Botha says it would have been possible to get onto the property by scaling the perimeter walls, without leaving scuff marks.

Kleynhans was forced to concede that his original statement was incorrect.

Today, Kleynhans faulted a little bit as a first officer on the scene and Botha has gone for every little detail or discrepancy that hasn't been verified.

The defence lawyer also challenged Kleynhans' initial testimony on van Breda's emotional state when he arrived of the scene and accused him of misleading the court.

The triple murder accused pleaded not guilty to all five charges against him.

In his plea explanation, van Breda claims that a laughing, axe-wielding intruder killed his parents and brother and injured his sister.
