[LISTEN] Online admissions - what you need to know

Gauteng MEC Panyaza Lesufi says there have been minor glitches with the online admissions process but applications are still coming in.

Within the first twenty minutes, 16 000 parents logged onto the portal to apply for their children to be placed at their preferred schools.

The system will be offline and updated between midnight and 2 am on Wednesday, to make it easier for parents to register their children.

Even if you are in the system and you log out, when you come back it will continue where you stopped. When we remedy the addresses later this evening, those parents they can continue to finalise their registration... that is why the system request a password and a user name, so that you can edit it at any time.

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng education MEC

Lesufi officially launched the system in Orange Farm on Tuesday morning, with a walk in centre for parents in the area.

The reason why we went to Orange Farm is because it gave us the highest number of people that applied late last year with almost 25 000.

Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng education MEC

Applications close on 12 June.
