Mashaba's first State of the City Address promises pro-poor agenda

City of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has thanked the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for working with the Democratic Alliance-led administration and government to better lives of the poor.

Mashaba delivered his first State of the City Address (Soca) at the new council chamber on Wednesday.

As part of his ten-point plan , Mashaba said R546 million will be used to electrify housing units, and R41 million will also be used to electrify five informal settlements.

Mashaba also said the City has allocated R4.3 million to extend operating hours at clinics.

He specifically thanks the EFF, saying although they are not a coalition partner, they have contributed to a new government quite well, and bringing up issues that are pro-poor.
