Grieving pupils brought to tears at memorial for Bronkhorstspruit crash victims

The memorial took place on Wednesday at the community hall in Sokhulumi Village in Gauteng, reports EWN's Hitekani Magwedze.

Twenty people were killed in March when the taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck and burst into flames.

Magwedze says learners from various schools in the region have gathered to pay their respects.

He says the grieving pupils were unable to contain their emotions while remembering their peers.

The primary school learners were unable to hold back their tears. It was a gripping atmosphere.

The pupils were from Mpumalanga but attended school in Gauteng and had to travel to and from provinces, Magwedze explains.

Another memorial service will be held in Verena in Mpumalanga on Thursday.

The driver of the taxi, who also died in the crash, was laid to rest over the weekend.
