Energy minister gets the nod (for now) from DA shadow minister

Energy minister Mmamoloko Kubayi made her first public appearance before Parliament’s Energy Committee on Tuesday.

Kubayi said she was open to public hearings on the issue of nuclear power and that Parliament had been misled about the disposal of South Africa's strategic oil reserves.

Gordon Mackay, DA Shadow Minister says his first impression of the minister is favourable.

The minister came as across as calm, very critical of her own department.

Mackay says he is glad that minister is level headed. He says she has promised to be transparent, accountable and far more available to the committee.

Mackay adds that Kubayi told the committee that the era of holding back information and confusion is over.

Now we just have to see if she is a woman of her word.
