South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) independent producers held a meeting to chart a way forward on the nonpayment of independent producers after meetings with management at the public broadcaster.
Filmmaker and Independent Producers Organisation's Rehad Desai says they met with the management three weeks ago and were promised a payment plan..
Desai says they haven't heard from management since then.
He says productions have stopped because some producers are not paid all their money and others are not paid at all.
According to reports the public broadcaster owes producers R100 million for April.
Desai says they are writing to SABC to demand the payment plan with details on how producers will be paid.
We want to have a joint agreement on what that payment plan is within 14 days.— Rehad Desai, filmmaker
If that's not in place by the 15th of June we will be taking to the streets to get our side to the SABC, and we are mobilising on the 16th of June.— Rehad Desai, filmmaker
