Edcon to appear before National Consumer Tribunal for unlawful club fee

The National Consumer Tribunal has ruled that the club fee charged by Edcon to its credit customers is unlawful.

The tribunal has also found that charging this fee was in contravention of the National Credit Act (NCA).

Acting executive chairperson of the National Consumer Tribunal, Professor Bonke Dumisa, says the tribunal has not yet decided on how Edcon can remedy the situation.

He says both the NCA and Edcon will have to appear before the tribunal to argue their case.

It was of national importance that we make the ruling, go think about it and we come back and discuss the penalty.
