Zuma ordered to hand over record of his decision to axe Gordhan

President Jacob Zuma has been ordered to hand over to the Democratic Alliance (DA) all records related to his decision to reshuffle his cabinet.

The opposition party approached the court, requesting that Zuma hand over an intelligence report he allegedly relied on as the reason to axe former finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

Last month, Zuma told senior African National Congress members that he’d obtained a report which alleged the both Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebisi Jonas, were conspiring against him.

The hearing took place in the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday.

Judge Bashier Vally has ordered Zuma to handover numerous records within five working days.

Barry Bateman was there.

Bateman says the DA’s advocate Steven Budlender stated it is not disputed that the President’s decisions can be reviewed.

Even though he is making an executive decision, it is still subject to review.

Barry Bateman, EWN reporter

The main thrust of his argument is on rule 53 in the uniform rules of the court which sets out what kind of decisions and how they can be reviewed....

The question here is, is the DA entitled to that document and the record of decision.
