Images of Marine Le Pen pelted with egg surface ahead of French election

In France, the second round of the country's election is set to take place on Sunday. French presidential candidate, Emmanuel Macron has extended his lead in the polls over far-right rival, Marine Le Pen.

Mike Pearse, a senior reporter with the ITV network in the UK, says the election is by far the most significant election in decades.

We have the very far-right Marine Le Pen, she wants to sort of ban lots of people coming into the country.

On the other side we have Emmanuel Macron who is talking about lots of cuts to jobs.

Pearse adds that images on television of Marine Le Pen pelted with an egg have surfaced highlighting the tumultuous nature of the presidential election campaign.

The latest polls just published show Macron has a 15 to 20 % percent lead over Le Pen.
