Africa Report: Chibok girls release was a prison exchange

The release of 82 school girls out of a group of more than 200 kidnapped from the north eastern town of Chibok in April 2014, was in exchange for prisoners.

The group were received by President Muhammadu Buhari after Boko Haram militants released the girls at the weekend.

Switzerland and the International Committee of the Red Cross helped secure the 82 girls in "lengthy negotiations", the presidency said on its Twitter account.

The government has refused to disclose details on how many Boko Haram suspects had been exchanged.

I don't think the Nigerian government is keen on being seen to be yielding in any way to Boko Haram but it seems they had to give something to get some of the girls back, of course there is still over 100 of some of the girls left out there and they promised negotiations would continue to get them freed.
