Eldorado Park protesters say they are forcing politicians to listen to their cry

EWN reporter, Mia Lindeque has been covering the Eldorado Park protests that broke out on Monday morning. She says the protests are about land.

Earlier on Monday morning, a Talk Radio 702 listener in Eldorado phoned into the Xolani Gwala show to alert listeners to running battles between police and residents.

The caller said one of the residents had been shot by police who have been firing rubber bullets and teargas to disperse the crowds burning tires and barricading roads.

Take a listen to the call:

They say that some people have been staying in small shacks for over 30 years.

They say that they've placed their names on specific lists where they are meant to be allocated land and RDP houses but so far they have not received any feedback from the City of Johannesburg.

Lindeque adds that the residents are angry and said today is the day they will force politicians to listen.

MEC for Community Safety Ms. Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane was at Eldorado addressing the residents but Lindeque says community members still feel like they are leaderless.
