SIU assists SABC interim board with investigations

Special Investigating Unit (SIU) head, Advocate Jan Lekhoa Mothibi, says they have started with the process of helping the South African Broadcasting (SABC) interim board with investigations recommended by Parliament.

In February, the Parliament's ad hoc committee probing the public broadcaster recommended, among other things, that a reputable company must conduct an independent forensic investigation into all irregular appointments, suspicious contracts, salary increments and performance bonuses paid during the period in question.

Mothibi says they will approach the Presidency so that the proclamation can be issued.

He says SIU has "prevented more than R3 billion that could have left state institutions" in the past financial year.

Mothibi saus President Jacob Zuma's administration has issued more proclamations than previously.
