8-year-old Aloshay will soon be able to hear again

Aloshay, 8, underwent surgery to be fitted with a cochlear implant which will enable her to hear again.

ENT specialist Dr Gary Kroukamp and his anesthetist are part of the team who worked pro bono, alongside Life Kingsbury to provide free use of their medical facilities.

Aloshay has been dealt so many blows in her young life, having been diagnosed with cancer, receiving a liver transplant, and then losing her hearing.

The initiative by Bidvest Hear For Life Trust is one of many making a difference in the lives children afflicted by hearing loss.

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies spoke to Aloshay's mother Candice and Dr Kroukamp.

For a child that could hear before, it was difficult for her to live life having lost her hearing. She was depending on lip reading a lot.

It went very well, we tested it properly afterwards to make sure it was connecting properly to the nerves and that was successful and the x-ray show that its properly positioned so everything should be all fine for the switch on in about two to three weeks time.
