Braam Malherbe and Wayne Robertson arrive in Rio after heroic 92-day rowing feat

Extreme conservationist Braam Malherbe and rowing mate Wayne Robertson have made it across the Atlantic Ocean after rowing in their own challenging version of the Cape to Rio Race.

The duo set off on 7 February and have completed an epic journey of over 8000 kilometers across the South Atlantic on Tuesday, arriving in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

They rowed as a apart of an initiative called DOT (Do One Thing), which aims to raise awareness about environmental management and the need to change the impact humanity is having on our planet.

Malherbe says it feels strange to be on land after more than three months at sea.

It's kind of weird... We've been physically moving for 92 days and to stand on solid ground is just the weirdest feeling!

It was extremely difficult, my toughest challenge to date!

He explains that they faced many life-threatening experiences including close shaves with super tankers, rough seas, capsizing several times and being submerged under water for many minutes.

They also had to deal with other challenges such as sleep deprivation, poor weather and a shortage of water rations.

It was about handling problems one day at a time.

He says that the team plans to relaunch the DOT app once they return to South Africa from Brazil, in an effort to get more exposure to the social cause.
