Bathabile Dlamini finally makes Parly appearance (after missing two meetings)

On Wednesday, the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) appeared before two committees in Parliament, the Committee on Social Development and National Council of Provinces select committee.

EWN reporter Lindsay Dentlinger says Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has largely defended the issue of work-streams, which is a group of consultants who are working at helping Sassa prepare to take over the payment of grants.

The minister said it is her understanding that Treasury has given the approval for these work-streams and that she'll even go to court to clarify their role and that the work they are doing is above board.

As far as Cash Paymaster Services (CPS) goes, the minister said, like everybody else she would like to see the back of CPS.

Dentlinger says Minister Dlamini emphasised that taking over the payments of grants will not happen overnight.

Project manager for the takeover, Zodwa Mvulane, has told Parliament’s Committee on Social Development that within the next week they will be able to determine the costs of the takeover project.
