Joburg City Power is ready for expected winter power outages

City Power, Johannesburg, says it has contingency plans in place for expected increased power outages during the cold weather.

City Power spokesperson, Yumna Sheik, says they have increased the number of technicians to attend to outages and emergency calls.

Sheik says the demand for electricity increases during winter resulting in overloading of the network and sometimes equipment failure.

But if the cable is damaged and transformer is blown, the minimum turn-around time to repair, test and energise is 24 hours. But when other faults are found it can take longer.
