Deadline passes for Zuma to give reasons for reshuffle

The DA says it will go back to court urgently if President Jacob Zuma doesn’t provide the written reasons for his Cabinet reshuffle.

Zuma’s lawyers filed a motion to apply for leave to appeal the interlocutory order that he had to hand over the documents used in making his decision.

EWN's Gia Nicolaides reports that the Presidency has not lodged the documents giving reason and record for his firing former finance minister Pravin Gordhan.

The Presidency has until Thursday at 4pm, when the courts close, to file their documents.

There's been no indication of these documents being filed to the court.

Meanwhile, legal opinions differ on whether Zuma is still required to comply with the order, given that he has filed an application to appeal, Nicolaides explains.

As it stands, the order is still in force. So, Zuma would technically still have to file his papers.

If the Presidency fails to file the papers, the DA may argue that Zuma is in contempt of court.
