[LISTEN] Mokoena previously laid charges against her alleged killer

A 27-year old man is expected to appear in court on Friday for the alleged murder of Karabo Mokoena, after her body was found near Bramley in Johannesburg this week.

The 22-year-old woman was reported missing in April.

Her uncle, Tshepo Mokoena says the suspect, an ex boyfriend, has confessed to stabbing her, dumping her body and then setting it alight.

Mokoena says the family is shocked by the incident, and that a case of assault had previously been opened.

It's terrible, and both parents can't talk, they are numb. I don't know what to say. Why would you kill someone, put her out in a bin, put a tire around her neck as if she has done something terrible....

Tshepo Mokoena, family spokesperson

WATCH: Karabo's uncle: Our family is traumatised.

It has emerged with the police that at some stage the deceased opened up a case because they had a fight. We do not know what happened to the case and why it was not followed.

Tshepo Mokoena, family spokesperson

Mokoena who is an activist says men should stand against violence.

We as men need to stand up and say enough is enough, we also need to teach young boys to say if you have an argument with your girlfriend, walk away.... as I was teaching boys to say no to violence, all I was preaching for year is coming back to me. I never thought that this would come back to me.
