Northern Cape premier supports President Zuma - analyst

The Northern Cape ANC provincial conference has kicked off despite clear disagreements within the ruling party after premier Sylvia Lucas reshuffled her Cabinet a day before the congress.

The ANC said Lucas' reshuffle is an attempt to influence conference results.

Provincial secretary, Zamani Saul, has publicly backed Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa to succeed President Jacob Zuma, while Lucas is reportedly aligned to Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

We have the premier who is aligned to Jacob Zuma, and contesting for the position of provincial chair.
