"Rethink the coding that you send the boy child in your life" #MenAreTrash

12 May 2017 4:02 PM
Eusebius McKaiser talks about the Twitter campaign triggered by the death of Karabo Mokoena in a long line of women killed by men.

Following the death of Karabo Mokoena, who was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, women took to Twitter to express how exhausted they are with abuse, misogyny and the killing of women.

These are women who say they are tired of constantly living in a state of fear when they walk in the streets.

The conversation #MenAreTrash raises issues that women are faced with and the battles they have to fight every day.

Women have shared horrible, shocking and heart-breaking experiences they have had with men.

Eusebius McKaiser talks about the campaign and the important work that needs to be done raising boys.

He says victim-blaming needs to be stopped. He says there needs to be a shift from "what can victims do not to be at the mercy of predators, to what can we do to not be as predatory as boys and men.

Eusebius pointed out the contradiction of black men who pushed back on the Twitter hashtag #MenAreTrash who are vehement fighters against racism, but who do not like the idea of being dumped in a camp of men being called out on patriarchal attitudes.
