SAB foundation awards open for entries

The Social Innovation Awards launched in 2011 as part of the SAB Foundation’ was established to encourage a culture of entrepreneurship in South Africa.

The programme has since invested in 103 entrepreneurs and their innovations at a total investment of over R17-million.

Director Bridgit Evans spoke to Kieno Kammies.

We have seen quite a significant increase in revenue and an increase in jobs.

The innovations have been in such different sectors from healthcare to agriculture to everything you can think of.

We look at three things, is it innovative, is it a new way of looking art solving a particular social challenge, is it going to be impactful and sustainable, Lastly is the business model one that is realistic.

SAB Foundation Social Innovation Awards 2017 prizes range from R150 000 to R1.2 million.
