'How families raise boy children is key to changing rape culture'

The death of Karabo Mokoena has sparked public outcry and anger against women abuse and how men treat women in South Africa.

22-year-old Mokoena was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend. Her charred remains were discovered in a shallow grave in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg.

The hashtag #MenAreTrash saw women tell their lived experiences of abuse at the hands of men who were their loved ones and strangers.

Prof Kopano Ratele, researcher at the Medical Research Council of South Africa

Ratele says there needs to be parental programmes helping parents to raise their children.
