Brian Molefe a no-show at African Utility Week

Re-appointed Eskom chief executive, Brian Molefe failed to make an appearance at the African Utility Week conference in Cape Town on Tuesday morning where he was due to open the gathering with a welcoming address.

EWN Reporter Lindsay Dentlinger says Eskom board chairperson Ben Ngubane addressed the delegates and apologised for Molefe's no-show.

(He did not) offer a reason immediately to the delegates as to why he (Molefe) wasn't there, just saying he had urgent business to attend to.

Dentlinger reports that Ngubane later mentioned to the media that he believed Molefe was called to Parliament.

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown, like Molefe, did not attend the conference. Ben Martins, deputy public enterprises minister, appeared on behalf of Brown.

In his address, Ngubane told delegates and the media that the current Eskom board and Molefe should be thanked for saving the country from load shedding.
