We don't have power to strong-arm mining minister, says Ngubane

Eskom board chairman Ben Ngubane has rejected allegations levelled against him and CEO Brian Molefe over the dubious sale of the Optimum mine.

Former Mineral Resources Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi claims Molefe and Ngubane tried to push him to blackmail resources giant Glencore to ensure a Gupta company could take control of the mine.

However, Ngubane told an impromptu media gathering at the African Utility Week conference that the allegations are preposterous, reports EWN's Lindsay Dentlinger.

He's saying that it's impossible to even believe that he or Molefe have the kind of power to strong-arm the minister into making these kinds of decisions of withdrawing mine licenses.

Molefe was expected to attend the conference, but was a no-show after the damning new allegations against him.
