Almost R3 billion needed to address water infrastructure backlogs in the W Cape

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille welcomed delegates to the Water Indaba hosted at the Goudini Spa, Rawsonville on Tuesday.

Minister of Water and Sanitation, Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane, also attended the event.

The Indaba is an outcome of a meeting previously held in March 2017 between the provincial and national governments in an attempt to assess the Western Cape Drought situation and to map out interventions necessary to guarantee the current and future water supply of the province in the midst of extreme drought that has affected the province.

Africa Melane, host of CapeTalk's Weekend Breakfast was the MC at the Indaba, says Mokonyane made some very important commitments as far as the draught is concerned.

The purpose of the meeting today was not to have government present solutions to the people.

Melanie says a lot of the presentations at the Indaba focused on the state of affairs of the city of Cape Town and how the drought has affected various economic sectors. Melanie adds that Zille declared the city a local disaster area.
