SABC faces R5.1 billion worth of irregular expenditure

Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo, appeared before Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) on Wednesday.

Kate Skinner, a member of lobby group Save Our SABC Coalition and broadcasting researcher, says the interim board tasked with fixing the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is doing exactly what is needed to amend the state of affairs of the public broadcaster.

We need all the different parties involved to be singing from the same hymn sheet.

Skinner adds that one if the big issues facing the SABC is James Aguma, who on Wednesday was axed as the acting CEO of the SABC after the communications minister said the current governance at the public broadcaster could not continue.

When you look at the financial crises the SABC is in with R5.1 billion worth of irregular expenditure, we have make sure that James Aguma is held to account.

Aguma, who retains his position as chief financial officer (CFO) of the SABC failed to appear at the meeting in Parliament on Wednesday.
