Spur loses millions over social media boycott campaign

COO of Spur, Mark Farrelly, elaborated on how an incident that took place at a Spur branch in Johannesburg cost the company millions.

An alteration between a white male and a black female, which resulted in the white male being banned from Spur, infuriated some of the white counterparts who retaliated with boycotting the restaurant.

The boycott Spur campaign on social media gained immense traction and saw Spur branches in more affluent areas suffering losses.

This had a considerable impact in our business in a number of areas, primarily in areas formerly being conservative party strongholds.

I think a lot of our customers who have been part of this boycott have been misled - a lot of mischievous, malicious stuff has been put out on social media.
