Gender violence in the Spotlight

[LISTEN] Caller shares how he overcame impulse to kill his partner

In light of the current spate of brutal attacks on women, and increasing cases of femicide in the country, a caller shared how he suffered emotionally when his wife said she wanted a divorce four years ago.

Mzwandile says he had lost his job at the time and was left with a large amount of debt.

By the time that woman decided to dump me and tell me its over, to be honest what was going on, what was happening in my mind and what I was going through emotionally and psychologically, nobody understood. And I told myself if this woman leaves me she will not see another world.

Mzwandile, 702 caller

During that period, execution was on my mind, that I must get rid of her but there was that inner voice that through this debt of R 80 000 that you leave me with, I will get through it, and really two years down the line I have finished those debts.

Deep down there was the inner voice telling me let her go, you will be fine. Men are suffering from that inner voice that they don't listen to. Although it is not easy....if any man says if a woman dumps you carry on, it is not easy if you love the woman and she has put you in huge debt and has dumped you like that, you feel that to take her life is nothing.

Mzwandile, 702 caller

He has encouraged men to look beyond their circumstances.

You are not born to be with this person, you came here to fulfill a mandate that you are here to fulfill. This woman was not in God's plan. I have a purpose in my life. It means she is not that person to fulfill that mandate or vision with me..... they must sit down and ask themselves what are the consequences of the actions that they will take.

Mzwandile, 702 caller

I am with a lovely woman now. She is the soulmate of my life.

Mzwandile, 702 caller

A number of men called in following Mzwandile's call feeling inspired to share their own stories about relationships that had soured and how they dealt with them.
