It is estimated to be worth $7 billion.

Work done and bolstered by market research reveals that the black hair industry is not to be ignored, says Moloto.

It is a very resilient industry in Africa.

Moloto says people spend close to $40 dollars per visit to the hair salon.

Hair has proven itself to be the last non-digestible non-discretionary good. She adds that it is showing itself in the most far-flung locations of DRC, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Ethiopia.

There's also been a significant interest in specifically ethnic hair from companies such as Dark & Lovely.

The dry market is even more interesting and that's braids, wigs, weaves.
