Gwede says ANC MPs voting against Zuma in motion of no confidence is a betrayal

The South African Communist Party (SACP) held what it called a national imbizo, prompted by the current state of the African National Congress (ANC).

EWN reporter, Clement Manyathela spoke to the second deputy secretary general, Solly Mapaila who said the SACP believes the African National Congress (ANC) can only redeem and renew itself is if President Jacob Zuma steps down from his role as president of the party.

They say they want to come out of this conference with clear plans of how they are going to renew the ANC and win back people who have lost confidence in this party.

And they insist that the only way to win back the back the people is to deal with the elephant in the room.

Clement Manyathela, EWN Reporter

Manyathela adds that the entire alliance is represented at the imibizo as well the South African Council Of Churches (SACC) and other civil rights organisations such as Save SA.

Gwede Mantashe, the general secretary of the ANC was also here. He spoke a lot about the leadership of the ANC.

Clement Manyathela, EWN Reporter

Manyathela adds that Mantashe reiterated his thoughts that he doesn't subscribe to the notion of voting with your conscience and against your party, saying it is a problematic concept.

Manyathela says the general secretary of the ANC also said the highest betrayal will be if the ANC MP's dare vote in support of the motion of no confidence.
