Gender violence in the Spotlight

Forensic officials inspect Sinoxolo Mafevuka's murder scene with suspects

An inspection in loco took place on Monday morning in a trial involving two men who are accused of raping and killing Sinoxolo Mafevuka in Khayelitsha in 2016. Sinoxolo Mafevuka's body was found in a communal toilet in the township in March.

EWN Reporter, Kevin Brandt says the police and court officials' visit to the murder and crime scene attracted a lot of attention from Khayelitsha residents. Brandt says there was also a group of demonstrators who were protesting against the violence of women and children.

It is an actually a court sitting so the interactions between the officials are not verbalised so that the media could understand it.

Kevin Brandt, EWN Reporter.

Brandt explains that the distances between the victims home and crime scene, as well as the crime scene and the accused's residence were measured. Brandt adds that these details will be further elaborated on when court resumes in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.

Brandt says the pair on trial, Xolisa and Athabile Mafilika were also present during the crime scene forensic inspection.

They also pointed out the house where they lived.
