Vumatel admits to causing power outages through fibre installations

23 May 2017 10:46 AM
There have been allegations that Vumatel is involved in cable theft across the City.

Vumatel CEO, Niel Schoeman, admits that some of their work does disrupt or interfere with cables resulting in power outages in communities.

Schoeman says this happens mostly in the suburbs where cables are very old and Vumatel then hits or cuts the cables while working is being done.

We keep the community informed when we have created an incident.

Niel Schoeman, Vumatel CEO

One of these outages happened in Randpark Ridge (west of Johannesburg) during the cold-snap recently leaving many without power.
