The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority ordered the Ethiopian Airlines to stop charging Nigerian passengers travelling to South Africa deportation fees.
The airline has been demanding an estimated $150 from Nigerians flying to South Africa, to transport them back to Nigeria in a situation where they are deported.
EWN African correspondent, Jean-Jacques Cornish, says according to reports South African Airways has been charging a similar fee to Nigerians.
This is obviously for incidental expenses when one is not granted entry to South Africa and Ethiopian Airlines has to pick up the tab back to Nigeria.— JJ Cornish, Africa Correspondent
Cornish reports that the payment may be refundable upon return to Nigeria.
The Nigerian government says these charges are unauthorised.
