Blitzbokke Kyle Brown and Ruhan Nel on the Sevens world championship win

Blitzboks Ruhan Nel and Kyle Brown have described their win at the World Sevens Series as 'perfect timing'.

The Springbok Sevens team was crowned HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series champions in London on Sunday.

This is the Blitzboks' first World Series title since 2009, winning 5 out of the 10 tournaments this season.

They have become one of the country’s most popular teams in recent times, winning the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.

Speaking on the questionable state of South African rugby at the moment and the support Sevens Rugby has garnered, Brown says the the timing was just right.

The situation was primed well, people were looking for something good to happen and the guys have had a phenomenal season this year, to do it at the moment when people need a good rugby performance its a special time.

The two explain why this part of the sport is growing.

I think sevens being an Olympic sport now is also contributing to that in a major way..

Ruhan Nel, South African Sevens player

If you look at the two different codes, for a developing nation to pick up the game of sevens is a lot easier than to pick up all the intricacies of fifteen.
