"Zuma is a hero to the poor"

President Jacob Zuma addressed the first Indigenous and Traditional Leaders Indaba in Boksburg on Monday.

This was the Zuma's first public appearance since the ANC NEC meeting over the weekend where he survived a motion of no confidence in his leadership.

EWN reporter, Mia Lindeque, says Zuma touched on a number of issues that are affecting the communities.

He spoke about land redistribution, violence against women and children and the vital role played by traditional leaders.

He says it is in no one's culture or tradition to be abusive towards women and children.

He says traditional leaders should come up with a specific plan of how to stop the scourge of women.

Cooperative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen also spoke at the Indaba before President Zuma took to the podium and said that people should not listen to what they hear in the media lately.

He said that Zuma is a hero to the poor. He says millions of people who believe that are not on Facebook and Twitter...
