Divide and rule tactic has kept Zuma in power - Mathekga

Political analyst Ralph Mathekga says another failed attempt at removing President Jacob Zuma is no surprise and that a December elective conference will be a defining moment for him.

Zuma survived a motion of no confidence tabled at the ANC's National Executive Committee meeting this past weekend.

The reality remains that President Jacob Zuma's power balance or the balance of forces, still favor him within the party.

The end game is December, and December will determine what is going to happen into 2019 for him as a member of the ANC. I think he is so well fed in making sure that the results at the December conference favor him. He has a candidate from his corner, and that candidate will not ruffle feathers and embarrass him when he is gone.

Commenting on Zuma's alleged lashing out at NEC members who he believes have been plotting against him, Mathekga says it is a divide and rule tactic.

The reality is that President Jacob Zuma has been able to master the divide and rule strategy and he is raising these criticisms that there are foreign agents involved for that purpose of divide and rule because it divides civil society and activists on this issue.
