'ANC-approved state capture inquiry will unlikely hone in on Gupta family'

The ANC's national executive committee (NEC) says it now wants a judicial commission of inquiry into state capture established urgently.

This comes after the ANC NEC held a three-day meeting over the weekend.

EWN's Stephen Grootes reports that the proposed commission will unlikely look into the Gupta family

As I understood it, they are looking at a commission of inquiry that would go back to 1994 and look at whether any business influences government.

We're looking at something so broad that it's unlikely to focus at all on the Guptas.

Grootes explains that the scope of the commission will be determined by who sets the terms of reference and what those terms are.

At the same time, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe would not be drawn on the emergence of leaked Gupta e-mails at the weekend or the latest report on state capture by the State Capacity Research Project last week.

The NEC also says Brian Molefe must leave Eskom and shouldn't wait for the court cases challenging his appointment.

Take a listen to the analysis:

Stephen Grootes also spoke to CapeTalk's John Maytham.
