Civil society organisation Save SA says it is encouraged by the support within the ANC calling for President Jacob Zuma to be removed.
This follows after the ANC's national executive committee (NEC) debated a motion of no confidence in President Zuma.
Save SA convener Sipho Pityana says the decision not to put the motion to a vote shows that the ANC is exploiting a flaw within its constitution.
We're encouraged by the broad support that there is within the leadership of the NEC, which has been confirmed by Blade Nzimande.— Sipho Pityana, Save South Africa convener
If Zuma's supporters were confident that they had the numbers, they would have agreed to a vote and allowed the majority view to prevail. For the second time, they have blocked that because of the shortcomings in the constitution of the ANC.— Sipho Pityana, Save South Africa convener
Pityana says President Zuma has given up South Africa's right to sovereignty and self-determination to a "bunch of crooks and looters".
This country cannot afford day more under the leadership of Jacob Zuma.— Sipho Pityana, Save South Africa convener
He says he is still convinced that Zuma will be removed, following the leaked Gupta emails and reports by the SA Council of Churches and another by academics.
