Kenya announces 8 official candidates for presidential race

President Uhuru Kenyatta and main opposition leader Raila Odinga are among 8 presidential candidates who will run in Kenya’s August 8 elections.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared the group on Monday.

Other candidates include Cyrus Jirongo (United Democratic Party), Ekuru Aukot (Thirdway Alliance), Michael Wainaina (Independent), and Japhet Kaluyu (Independent), Mohamed Abduba Dida (Alliance for Real Change) and Joseph Nyagah (Independent).

In fact five candidates failed the prerequisite requirements to enter the presidential election race but now the seven have kicked off their campaigns.

Already analysts are saying that there might have to be a run off if no candidate reaches 50% of the vote.
