Brown tells Parly Eskom's state capture inquiry will shed light on Tegeta deal

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has told Parliament that her own inquiry into state capture at Eskom will reveal the processes behind the utility's deal with Gupta-owned company Tegeta.

Parliament has heard of irregularities and discrepancies in a coal supply contract between Eskom and Gupta-owned company, Tegeta.

Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has been probing the contract after private auditors found that Eskom’s own procurement regulations were flouted.

Scopa chair Themba Godi says Brown believes her broad investigation will identify the systemic issues plaguing the utility's procurement processes.

The inquiry will involve the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) and a retired judge who will deal with the SIU’s findings and recommend further action.

Godi explains that the findings of the inquiry will determine whether disciplinary action or legal action must be taken against officials.

That will then decide whether the are matters that will go to disciplinary action or matters that must go to NPA.
