CoCT plans to offer free bus rides to job seekers

Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia de Lille, has confirmed the City's plans to subsidise MyCiti bus fees for unemployed residents.

Mayco member for Transport at City of Cape Town, Brett Herron, says they are still working out the details of how this would be rolled out.

He says one of the possible ways to go about it is to register job seekers and issue MyConnect cards to those who are registered. Alternatively, there will be a specific period to offer people a free ride.

The initiative will be implemented by the end of September, says Herron.

According to the Cape Times, a major change in the City budget was proposed on Tuesday from the Transport and Urban Development Authority of Cape Town for a reduction of up to R6.6m on the Concessionary Travel Revenue budget.
