With over 19 child murders in Cape Town alone, parenting expert Nikki Bush explains the importance of parents talking to kids.

With all the recent reports of children being abducted and killed, CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies speaks to parenting expert Nikki Bush about how parents can keep their children safe.

She says parents need to have conversations with their children about what is going on the world around them from a young age. Common sense still applies, she says.

We do need to make our children aware of stranger danger and we need to start that at the very young age.

Bush says parents who drop off their children at shopping malls or play dates without supervision are asking for trouble.

It is not everybody out there who's got the best interest for our children.
