SA soldiers deployment to CAR in 2013 may be linked to Gupta business

One of the stories emerging from the Gupta leaked emails is how Eskom chair Ben Ngubane and a Gupta-owned company tried to invest in an oil field in the Central African Republic in 2013.

This after fifteen South African soldiers were killed in that country by people belonging to the Central African Republic government.

Stephen Grootes spoke to Pikkie Greef, National Secretary General of the South African National Defence Union (Sandu).

Remember that the initial interview that we had with the wounded soldiers who returned to South Africa days after the battle, we were told by those soldiers that they were basically not conducting training there, but were, in fact, guarding buildings in Bangui. They did not know what the buildings were for or who it belonged to and that is what caused the speculation at the time.

Pikkie Greef, National Secretary General SANDU.

We believe that evidence does point in the direction that there might have been an ulterior purpose to deploy them.

Pikkie Greef, National Secretary General SANDU.

Someone closely connected to government definitely attempted with the Guptas, on the fresh grave our soldiers, to strike a deal a business deals with the very people who killed our soldiers.

Pikkie Greef, National Secretary General SANDU.
